Oooooo nelly, I've been hording these products for quite a while. This is going to be a series of blog posts because there's so much... With the conclusion of 2014 I really wanted to focus on cleaning up my makeup stash. Most of these are products I've been holding onto in hopes of making them work (you know how that is). Or I wasn't able to return them for whatever reason. I'm one of those people that really like to research products first before taking the plunge, so it's a bit uncommon for me to have something that I absolute hate.
*A small disclaimer: Even though these didn't work for me, doesn't mean they won't work for you! So definitely take everything I say with that in mind. These are just my experiences.
Urban Decay - De-Slick Mattifying Powder
I wanted to love this... This girl has oily skin, it seemed like it would be a match made in heaven! With the experience I had with the De-Slick Setting spray, I decided to go for it. This was a pure impulse buy.The packing looked super cute and purply! Obviously, this didn't work for me. It felt it left me looking cakey and ghostly. It's not at all "translucent" like it claims.
Maybelline - Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation
Anything that claims a matte finish, I'm a sucker for. I gave this and a try and nope. It was horrible to apply, fell everywhere in pieces, and made a mess. It wasn't wroth it. And I got maybe 2-3 hours of wear before my oils broke through. Again, nope.
They have re-packaged this product. Maybe they redid the formula? I don't know but I'm not going down that road again.
Physicians Formula - Conceal Rx Physicians Strength Concealer
I watched and read so many great reviews raving about the coverage on this product. And without a doubt, it's covers! It's just a horrible color match for anyone that has a medium completion or darker. There's only two shades available and I picked the darkest. Disappointed on the lack of shades.
Benefit Cosmetics - Erase Paste
This is a cult favorite in the beauty world. I decided to go with the deluxe sample and boy am I glad I didn't buy the full sized. This is awful on me. It was cease city under my eye balls. I'm a very expressive person in the face, so this has always a problem for me with certain concealers. This was super thick and hard to blend. I'm not fond of using my fingers to apply concealer but with this product you almost have to just to warm it up to make it more pliable. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Maybelline - Dream Pure BB Cream
I was interested in the fact that this contains 2% salicylic acid. I wanted this for light makeup days. This BB cream had so many claims that it didn't live up too. Coverage was minimal, which I expect from a BB cream but I felt my face just consumed this product. Does that happen to anyone else? At the end of the day there was barely anything left. If I'm going to take the effort to apply a foundation type product I might as well stick with a actually foundation.Too much effort for little reward.
Boots - No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15
Of course, since it's a matte foundation I had to try this. This was a awful color match for me but in my defense the shade range was lacking. It had awkward jumps and gaps where foundation shades should be. I found out this is a brand of makeup are carried in drugstores in the UK? And here in the good ol' US, we're missing a good chuck of the shades. Good job whoever thought that was a good idea. When I first applied this I was super impressed with the finish it gave. After a couple hours of wear I was a horrible grease ball. I mean seriously, it was the oilest I've ever seen my skin with foundation on. It was awful. I got this from Target and they wouldn't let me return this. Lesson learned.
L'Oréal - Studio Secrets Magic Lumi Highlighter
Another widely talked about product in the beauty community. This was just too watery and when I blended it on the skin, it became non-insistent.. I dunno if I got a dud? I prefer the Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer instead.
Benefit Cosmetics - The Big Easy Liquid To Powder SPF 35 Foundation
This was a deluxe sample. It had fun advertising and the idea of a matte BB cream with SPF 35 was greatly appealing. I thought this would be great for summer. This just didn't work out for me. Limited shade range, sheer to light coverage, and limited staying power.
Benefit Cosmetics - The POREfessional Agent Zero Shine
Out of all the products I regret, this is definitely my biggest regret... I tried everything to make this work. It's a decent product but has a horrible packaging concept. I just couldn't get past it and make it work. It wasteful, messy, and time consuming. It cute but just not at all functional. I don't have the patience for it anymore. This broke my heart.
Tarte - Colored Clay CC Primer
This was another product that had good amount of positive reviews. It really just didn't work for me as a primer. There are better ones out there that do what I want. This is supposed to color correcter primer but honestly, I can get that from most if not all of my foundations. As a primer I feel it just made my foundation feel thicker and didn't really help in the longevity of my makeup. Alot of people in reviews claimed they can wear this by itself as a foundation. I tried that as well and it just didn't fly on this oily skinned girl.
Maybelline - Corrector Concealer
Honestly, I don't know what even made me buy this! This was just a fail on my part. Not necessary in my concealing process at all.
Nyx Cosmetics - Dark Circle Concealer
Again, same issues with the Benefit Erase Paste. This was too thick and it settled and ceased in the under eye area.
CoverGirl & Olay - Simply Ageless Concealer (Discontinued)
The way this product worked is that there was a swirl of concealer and a swirl of moisturizer in this pot. The product resumed the design of a peppermint swirl. When applying this you're supposed to swirl the product together and then apply where needed. Every time you go to apply this you make either get more moisturizer than concealer or vice versa. One day this could look fab another day it could look awful. I didn't enjoy playing this game of Roulette.
e.l.f. - Mineral Pressed Mineral Foundation
Well, first things first, wasn't the right shade. Elf doesn't take returns because their products are so cheap it isn't cost effective for them to do so. Buying online can be hard with make up but even though this was the wrong shade I still tried it, just in case I wasn't to ordered a darker shade later. This made my face look super dry. Coverage was barely there. This doesn't deserve to be called a foundation. Even as a setting powder, I wasn't impressed.

What foundations and concealers do you regret buying?
Physicians Formula green concealer worked our well for me. Now a days its my most favorite concealer
ReplyDeleteI kind of wonder if I was using it wrong! I've seen so many videos recently on how to use green concealer, I might give it a try again. Thanks for the recommendation!
